With the scuffles of life, it could be challenging for an artist to be able to spend weeks on end working on nothing but their art.

Native artists Wayne Nez Gaussoin and Holly Grimm will get that chance at one of New Mexico’s significant art schools, the Santa Fe Art Institute (SFAI).

Gaussoin (Picuris Pueblo/Diné) and Grimm (Diné) are the 2015 Residency Fellows for the Southwestern Association of Indian Arts.

“We were really impressed with Wayne’s out-of-the-box approach to installation art,” Chief Operating Officer Dallin Maybee said on why Gaussoin was selected.

Maybee added that they felt the same way about Grimm.

“She wants to get out there and try some new stuff. We’re hoping that the narratives she presented in her applications will go a step farther with what she’ll be exposed to at SFAI,” he said.
