WINDOW ROCK

When people see Navajo Nation Vice President Rex Lee Jim, they may only see a politician.

But on April 3, people got to see the poet in him during his book reading and signing of “Saad,” a 1995 book full of short poems all written by Jim.

“I am a poet,” Jim declared to the audience. “I always say if I’m going to be defined as anything, it’s a poet.”

Among the work published in “Saad,” Jim also read his other poems to the small group during this event held at the Navajo Nation Museum.

Though some pieces were read in English, everything from “Saad” was read and written in the Diné language because, Jim admits, he is more versed in the Navajo language than English.
