SkillsUSA conference offers students service to others with no gain to selves

GALLUP

Students from across New Mexico gathered in Gallup this past weekend for a series of volunteer work as part of the SkillsUSA Fall Service Learning & Leadership Conference at the University of New Mexico-Gallup.

SkillsUSA is an educational organization that aims to maintain a skilled workforce in the U.S.

According to a news release, SkillsUSA brings together students, teachers and industry representatives into a partnership of education, support and preparation for careers in technical, skilled and service occupations.

The fall conference, “Project Helping Hands,” was from Oct. 11 to Oct. 13 and it featured 147 students from 10 schools. The students were brought to Gallup to promote service, learning and leadership within the community.
