FLAGSTAFF, ARIZ.

Students from the STAR Charter School near Flagstaff were able to take the gardening skills they learned from school all the way to the White House last week when they were invited to harvest crops from First Lady Michelle Obama’s garden.

According to a new release the celebration was in honor of Farm to School month where the First Lady invited the students from Arizona, California and Ohio to participate in the fall harvest.

STAR Charter School represented Arizona and five students from the school attended the annual fall harvest of the White House Kitchen Garden, where they got to join Obama and some of the nation’s top chefs in harvesting, prepping and cooking dinner.

The students who went include fifth graders Natasha Garcia, 10, Sawyer Allison-Begay, 9, Anthony Harvey, 10 and sixth graders Isaac Cook, 11 and Marilee David, 11.

The highlight of the trip to Washington, D.C. for all the students was meeting Obama, seeing the types of plants she grows in her garden and being able to harvest the garden with her.
