Listening to the Navajo Nation's Poet Laureate Luci Tapahonso read poems from her published texts is one way to attract students into the literary arts at Navajo Technical University.

It's how NTU student Wallace Dale learned about Tapahonso. The Shiprock native was invited to campus Monday to help the university launch and celebrate its recently approved bachelor of fine arts degree in creative writing and new media.

The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools approved NTU's BFA degree on Oct. 9, 2013. The 133-credit hour hybrid program began offering courses this semester.
