FLAGSTAFF - Everett Lamuel Bedonie, 20, and a 17-year-old female were arrested May 15 by Coconino County Sheriff's deputies assigned to the Page Patrol Division in connection with a series of automobile burglaries that occurred in the parking lot and main boat ramp of Antelope Point, according to a press release from the Coconino County Sheriff's Office.

During the last two weeks, Coconino County Sheriff's deputies and National Park Service, Glenn Canyon, law enforcement officers have responded to 15 reports of automobile burglaries that occurred at Antelope Point.

Deputies also investigated the theft of a truck and trailer at Antelope Point during the same time period.

In response to these crimes, sheriff's deputies and National Park Service officers conducted a surveillance operation at Antelope Point on the evening of May 15 and the morning of May 16.

During this operation, a park service law enforcement officer heard the sound of breaking glass. Deputies and park service officers confronted four individuals who they believed were in the process of committing automobile burglaries.

Deputies and officers took two of the suspects into custody and the other two fled the area and avoided arrest. The two arrested were charged with one count each of burglary in the third degree, felony theft, and felony criminal damage.

Upon further investigation, deputies and officers discovered that seven auto burglaries occurred on May 15 in the Antelope Point area before the surveillance detail began.

This investigation will continue and additional charges and arrests of additional suspects are anticipated in the near future.

PHOENIX - Michael Vasquez, 20, of Sacaton, Ariz., was sentenced May 20 to 111 months in federal prison for his role in a shooting which left a toddler seriously injured, according to the U.S. attorney's office.

Vasquez pleaded guilty on March 5 to assault resulting in serious bodily injury and possession of a firearm in a crime of violence.

On Feb. 28, 2008, Vasquez had a gang-related fight with three men. After the fight, Vasquez called several friends to help him retaliate. Co-defendant Jeremiah Johns and his brother, co-defendant Jerome Johns, responded.

The trio drove to a residential area where they saw the rival gang-members standing outside. The men began to argue and Jeremiah Johns began firing a weapon at them in the direction of a nearby home. Jeremiah Johns fired at least 30 rounds of ammunition from a high-caliber rifle.

Many of the rounds entered the nearby home, striking an adult male and a 2-year-old child who was sleeping in her crib. The child suffered serious injuries to her lower body, possibly never to walk in the future.

Vasquez did not fire a single round or personally carry a weapon, but was responsible for these crimes by aiding and abetting.

Co-defendant Jeremiah Johns pleaded guilty on Jan. 8 to assault resulting in serious bodily injury and use of a firearm in a crime of violence and was sentenced to 147 months in prison.

PHOENIX - Hernold Terrazas Jr., 31, of Sacaton, Ariz., was sentenced May 19 to 14 months in federal prison after pleading guilty on Feb. 17 to felon in possession of a firearm, according to the U.S. attorney's office.

Police discovered Terrazas' crime on March 15, 2008, when they responded to a call of a child who had been shot.

U.S. District Judge G. Murray Snow told him that he believed Terrazas' greatest punishment was the injury that was caused to his own son as a result of his possession of the firearm.
