Officer injured in freak accident

A Navajo police officer was injured and his vehicle sustained extensive damage in an incident that took place Dec. 5 on U.S. 89 near Page, Ariz.

The officer, whose name was not released, had responded to a report of a semi-trailer rollover. Upon arriving at the scene, he parked his car near a 40- to 45-foot deep hole.

Before he could unstrap his safety belt and exit his vehicle, however, its weight caused the pavement to give way and the whole thing slid into the hole.

The officer received sprains to his neck and back while the vehicle received damage to its hood and body.

Brothers' fight draws blood

The first report that came into police Nov. 24 was that a series of windows had been broken in White Cone, Ariz.

As a police officer was on his way to investigate, a second report came in of a man carrying a knife near Nelson Jackson's home. At that point, backup was requested.

When police officers arrived at the scene, they found bloodstains on a car parked in Jackson's driveway and on the screen door into his house. When they went inside, they discovered Ervin Steven Jackson, 40, in his bedroom, covered in blood.

Jackson was told to put his bands behind his back so he could be cuffed but refused to cooperate. An officer finally had to use a Taser to get him to comply.

An investigation revealed that Ervin Jackson had gotten into a fight with his brother, Reginald Jackson, 20, of Dilkon, Ariz., and Tyson Atakai, no age given, also of Dilkon. Ervin Jackson received a large laceration on the front of his head during the fight.
