Police said that the driver of the vehicle - Cheryl Sloan, 32 of Two Grey Hills - was southbound on U.S. Highway 491 near Twin Lakes about 12:30 a.m. when she saw a woman - Cheryl L. Largo, 40 - standing in the middle of the roadway.
Largo was wearing dark clothes and Sloan said she saw her too late to avoid hitting her. After she hit Largo, Sloan said she pulled over to the shoulder of the road and waited until police arrived.
Police said Largo was killed on impact and thrown to the shoulder of the road.
Largo's friends, according to police, reported that she was at their house and that she was intoxicated. They said she left their residence to use the outhouse and never returned.
