Frank Fisher, media coordinator for the FBI in Albuquerque, confirmed to the Navajo Times that the death of the toddler is currently under investigation.

"We and Navajo Nation law enforcement authorities are investigating the death of a 13-month-old boy," Fisher said. "The body was found in a culvert near the Crystal Chapter House this morning."

"All we know is a body was found this morning at 7:15 a.m.," Fisher said.

When the Navajo Times went out to the community Friday afternoon after receiving a phone call about the incident, Crystal Chapter President Jacey McCurtain said neither she nor the community is making any statements about the death because of its sensitive nature among community members here.

An emergency command center for the community had been set up at the Crystal Senior Center for the investigation.
