The governing board of the Window Rock Unified School District has granted superintendent Deborah Jackson-Dennison personal leave until March 21.

As a result of Dennison's leave, the board appointed Floyd Ashley to serve as the acting superintendent. The board voted 4-0 to grant Dennison's leave, and also voted 4-0 to place Ashley as the acting superintendent.

The actions of the board come on the eve of a special recall election – March 11 – in which Board President Emily Arviso, along with members Albert Deschine, Lorraine Nelson and Richard Showalter, are up for recall.

Their opponents in the March 11 recall election are Marcus Tulley, Lynnette Guy, Carl Hillis and Josie Dawes.
