TOP TO BOTTOM: New board members Lynette Guy, Carl Hillis,Josephine Dawes and Marcus Tulley.

Since leading the charge for the Window Rock Parents for Action, Change and Accountability Committee over a year ago to recall board members of the Window Rock Unified School District, newly elected member Marcus Tulley let out a resounding, “We did it. Yes! Yes!”

Tulley, along with newly elected board members Josephine Dawes, Carl Hillis and Lynette Guy, took their oaths during a swearing-in ceremony Tuesday at the site of the now closed Tsehootsoi Diné Bi Olta school building.

The four board members join Marty Bowman, who wasn’t part of the recall effort, to make up the governing board that will work with WRUSD Superintendent Deborah Jackson-Dennison. Dennison returns from personal leave on March 21 with her first regular school board meeting with the new board on March 26.

“The people have spoken,” said Tulley, who ousted former board president Emily Arviso by 350 votes. “When people get involved in the education of their kids, then anything is possible.”
