Woman dies, 2 injured in crash

On March 22, Gallup State Police officers were dispatched to State Road 400, milepost 5, at 4:03 a.m. regarding a single vehicle fatal crash, according to a news release from the New Mexico Department of Public Safety.

The vehicle had three occupants, two males and one female. The two male subjects were transported to local hospitals, one sustaining non-life threatening injury and the other in critical condition.

The female passenger, identified as Stephanie Lee, 21, of Gallup, succumbed to her injuries on scene.

Based on the investigation, it appears the vehicle was traveling southbound on SR 400 going to McGaffey from Fort Wingate. The vehicle was traveling at a fast rate of speed and came upon a left curve. The driver lost control and collided with a tree.

Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor to this crash. No seatbelts were utilized.
