Political activity for the presidency is picking up but as of Wednesday, only four candidates have actually filed for the post and have been certified by the Navajo Board of Election Supervisors.

Those who were certified as candidates for tribal president by the election board last Thursday were Joe Shirley Jr. and Myron McLaughlin, both from Chinle, and Donald Benally from Shiprock, Kenneth Maryboy from Mexican Water, and Christopher C. Deschene from LeChee.

Deschene is the latest candidate to file.

In an April 14 press release, Deschene said, "We cannot solve problems with the old way of thinking. We need leaders who will plan and solve for tomorrow's needs while speaking to the hard issues. I will work to include all sides to support new ideas that will work for our people."
