With ongoing negotiations occurring between its uranium development subcommittee and Texas-based Uranium Resources Inc., the Resources and Development Committee voted 3-2 Tuesday to table a bill that could possibly dissolve and end these talks.

The tabling motion came after Council delegate Katherine Benally (Chilchinbeto/Dennehotso/Kayenta) heard colleagues debate the pros and cons of the proposed bill. She asked the subcommittee how much time it needed for it to come to some sort of mutual understanding with URI.

"If we don't come to a solution really quick, then the best solution is to vote in favor of it," Benally said referring to the bill council delegate George Apachito (Alamo/Ramah/Tohajiilee) introduced to the RDC Tuesday.
