ALBUQUERQUE

Thursday, Sept. 15 is the last day to get comments in to support the Strengthening Families Program within the Navajo Nation Division of Social Services, Legislation No. 0315-16.

Cut off time is 6 p.m.

The five-day comment period began on Sept. 9, according to the Navajo Nation Council Delegate office.

“If there ever is a time for the voice of women on pending legislation, this is it. On behalf of the Navajo Women’s Commission, I urge your support today for this bill and for the health of future generations,” stated Vivian Arviso, Chairperson of the Navajo Women’s Commission.

The Strengthening Families Program was introduced by Navajo Nation Council Delegate Amber Kanazbah Crotty (Toadlena/Two Grey Hills/Red Valley/Tse’alnaozt’i’i’/Sheepsprings/Beclabito/Gadiiahi/To’Koi).

The program will provide prevention, crisis intervention, 24-7 residential shelter and supportive services for victims and their dependents of family, domestic and dating violence.

Comments can be emailed to comments@navajo-nsn.gov or dropped off or mailed to Executive Director, Office of Legislative Services, P.O. Box 3390, Window Rock, AZ 86515.

“This legislation will at last focus on an area of great concern and allow our communities to receive services. Please make a comment and contact others who share this concern to also speak up. With all our voices, there will be changes,” stated Arviso.
