Tom resigns from Council seat, gives no reason

David L. Tom submitted his resignation as a member of the Navajo Nation Council on Wednesday.

Tom, who represents Toadlena/Two Grey Hills, Red Valley, Tse’alnaozt’i’i’, Sheepsprings, Beclabito, and Gadiiahi/To’Koi, made his resignation effective as of Wednesday.

A veteran of almost 12 years on the Council, Tom gave no reason for his resignation.

He was one of five former and present members of the Navajo Nation Council who had been scheduled to go on trial in Window Rock District Court for misappropriation of discretionary funds.

In the original complaint against Tom, it was alleged that Tom conspired with former Council delegate Ernest Yazzie to provide $95,000 to Tom’s family with Tom’s wife getting $26,300, his daughter, $25,900, his sons receiving a total of $34,700 and another $10,000 being paid to another dependent.
