It seems that Dineh Benally, vice presidential running mate to Joe Shirley, Jr., has a history of violating lease agreements, according to the latest documents retrieved by the Navajo Times.

Today at 1:30 p.m. in San County District Court in Aztec, N.M., Judge Karen L. Townsend will decide on a “motion for judgment on the pleadings” that was filed by Richard and Debbie Silva, plaintiffs, against Benally, the defendant in the case.

“This is an internal issue being handled with the baseball organization (Naataanii Baseball Academy) I work with,” Benally said in an email to the Navajo Times. “I deny any allegations that are made against me in this matter.”

Benally added that the unresolved conflict with the Silvas is why the matter is in court and at the advice of his legal counsel has no further details to report until the case is settled.

The Silvas filed suit against Benally for violating a seven year lease for his allege failure to pay rental property that the vice presidential candidate used in Kirtland, N.M. for the Naataanii Baseball Academy, according to court documents. In their motion, the Silvas ask Townsend to rule in their favor so that Benally pays the couple approximately $117,123 plus interest at a 16.37 percent rate until money owed to them is paid.
