PHOENIX

It was a double whammy for Page.

Page’s boys and girls teams both turned in a stellar performance en route to capturing the Arizona Division III state championships.

Fighting off humid weather conditions, with temperatures hovering over 90 degrees at Cave Creek Golf Course in northwest Phoenix, Page’s boys’ squad netted 44 points and the Lady Sand Devils tallied 65 points to win the state titles.

Page head coach MacArthur Lane said the boys’ and girls’ teams worked hard and improved all season long.

“It’s a humble experience for the boys and girls teams,” Lane said. “Both teams worked so hard. Both teams sacrificed throughout the season.”

Senior Jeffrey Miller was Page’s top finisher, claiming state runner-up. Miller battled eventual state champion Carlos Villareal, of Rio Rico, for nearly two miles.

With one mile remaining in the race, Villareal pulled away. Villareal won the state title, posting a 15:24. Miller was clocked in 15:46.
