Bloomfield's Matt Crockett (14) is fouled on this shot by Wingate's Kyle Yazzie (32) Feb. 19 in Bloomfield, N.M. The Bobcats defeated Wingate, 59-46.)

Bloomfield head coach Steve Scott has been looking for that complete game.

The Bobcats may have found their consistency just in time for the District 1-3A tournament. The Bobcats (20-6, 9-3 in district) defeated longtime rivals Wingate (17-9, 9-3) on Feb. 20, 59-46.

The win ties the teams for the No. 2 seed in the district.

"Basically the game was a big game for both of us," Scott said.

In the first half Bloomfield held Wingate to eight points and led at the end of the first quarter, 19-8.

They continued to pull away, leading 33-22 at the half.

Wingate head coach Al Martinez said a change in Bloomfield's defense was the key.

"We know each other really well," he said. "I think their defense, they changed it up tonight. They did that two-three and they covered our shots and we don't really have much of an inside game.

"So if we're not making from the outside it's going to be tough for us to score and tonight was that night."

At the end of the third quarter, Wingate trailed 48-32. Bloomfield never looked back.

"This is just one game for us," Scott said. "With everything right now we're playing good. I think we got a good shot being seeded into the state tournament."
