Red Mesa girls get by Lady Miners, improve record to 9-0

For the first time in a long time the Red Mesa girl's basketball team knows what it feels like to have a target on their back.

Red Mesa is currently seeded No. 8 in Arizona Division IV and No. 1 in their section with an undefeated record of 9-0, according to MaxPreps. Their latest victory came Tuesday night when they defeated the Red Valley/Cove Miners, 58-27. Red Valley/Cove is 6-13 overall in the freelance division.

Red Mesa head coach Sandy Benally said the seasoned team has been working cohesively and because of it they have seen successful.

"We're really … working together, helping each other out," he said. "This is new. It's been a long time since Red Mesa's been up here. Everybody's gunning for us."
