The opening round of the sectional tournament in Arizona prep girls basketball had a few surprises statewide on Tuesday night.

A handful of teams pulled off some major upsets, which has put some bubble teams on edge. The aftermath remains to be seen on how those upsets might affect the seeding for next week's state basketball tournament.

But for teams in the northeastern area of the state, the higher seeded teams took care of business as they advanced into Saturday night's championship game.

The top-seeded Red Mesa Lady Redskins held off a pesky St. Michael bunch at Greyhills High School and advanced with a 61-50 win. They will play No. 2 seed Sanders Valley as the Pirates defeated Rock Point by a 76-63 count.
