Win keeps Tohatchi in hunt for district title, top seed at state

The Tohatchi Cougars are No. 1 in District 1-2A, and they paid a lot of dues to get there.

Before Tuesday night, the Cougars had only one team standing in their way – Crownpoint (9-2).

Tohatchi (10-1 in district) defeated Crownpoint, 46-43, on Feb. 11 in Crownpoint for the current top seed in their district, but it was not an easy victory.

In the midst of a sold-out, electrifying crowd, the Cougars put up a quick 10-point run in the first quarter to lead the Eagles 12-5. But Tohatchi committed three turnovers to start the second quarter that allowed the Eagles to catch up.
