The Gallup Lady Bengals and the Shiprock Lady Chieftains had enough confidence between them to knock their opponents out of the quarterfinals of the New Mexico state basketball tournament Tuesday night.

The No. 4 Lady Bengals defeated Espanola Valley, 73-62, to advance to play No. 1 Los Lunas today in the Class 4A semifinals at 1:15 p.m.

The No. 1 seeded Lady Chieftains defeated No. 8 Robertson, 59-32, in the quarterfinals and advanced to the Class 3A semifinals where they will meet No. 4 Hope Christian in The Pit at 11:30 a.m.

While the scores may read otherwise, the wins hardly came easy.
