Los Lunas Tiger Chad Murphy (12) drives the ball for the basket during the boys Class 4A championship game against the Roswell Coyotes at the UNM Pit in Albuquerque. The Tigers lost, 56-41.

Among the high-profile No. 2 Los Lunas Tigers, who won their first state championship game in school history, stood a Navajo leader.

The natural-born leader was Los Lunas senior and Navajo Nation member Chad Murphy, who played for the Tigers for the last four seasons. Though the Tigers were defeated, 56-41, by No. 1 Roswell, Murphy had a hand in leading the team during their historical season.

After the loss to Roswell, Los Lunas head coach Travis Julian said Murphy, who is a captain on the team, has always been in a league of his own.
