The long ride to the Pit in hopes of a state championship title came to an end for the Shiprock Lady Chieftains.

It wasn't the ride they had hoped for in the end, one filled with medals and a blue trophy, but it was still one heck of a ride.

Shiprock became the 2014 Class 3A girls' basketball state runners-up after Portales defeated them last week, 62-59, in the championship game of the state tournament held March 11-15 at the Pit, where they finally met their match after going into the game undefeated at 29-0.
