Piedra Vista Lady Panther Kieyoomia Benally, left, tosses her glove into the air as she and teammate Autumn Begay (14) begin to celebrate their victory over the Aztec Lady Tigers on Saturday at the 4A state softball championship game in Albuquerque. Piedra Vista defeated Aztec, 12-3, for the title.

If there were any doubts that Piedra Vista High's softball and baseball teams were dominant in class 4A, there aren't any now.

Despite much hesitation, the No. 1 seeded Lady Panthers earned its ninth consecutive state title last weekend after defeating arch rivals No. 2 Aztec, 12-3.

The No. 1 seeded Panthers baseball team earned its fourth state title in the last five years and in the school's history after defeating No. 2 Goddard, 7-6.

Along with their youth, early in the season the Lady Panthers hit some bumps in the road and few expected them to survive the championship bracket.
