Winslow shortstop Alyssa Smith tries to beat the throw at first during the Arizona Division III state semifinals against Benson High at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex in Phoenix. On May 17, the Lady Bulldogs defeated Payson, 5-3, in the state championship game.

With regularity, the Winslow Lady Bulldogs have rolled through the Arizona state softball playoffs and reached the finals for the last six years.

They won it all in 2010 but this year's group of seniors had come up short of winning that elusive title.

Their coronation was merely delayed as the Bulldogs outlasted league rival Payson 5-3 in a riveting Division III final that pitted the top two seeded teams.

"It's been one of the most stressful things I've gone through but finally I get to finish my senior year as a state champion, instead of a runner-up," Winslow first baseman Taylor Baca said. "This is a memory that we're going to hold on to forever."
