Deezbaa Whaley, a 2007 graduate of Monument Valley High School in Kayenta and a senior thrower at Brigham Young University, will compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I Western Regional Track & Field Championships at University of Arkansas on Friday.

Brigham Young University senior thrower Deezbaa Whaley is preparing to compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I Western Regional Track & Field Championships at University of Arkansas on Friday.

"This is my first time I've qualified for the NCAA regional meet," said Whaley, who graduated with a bachelor's degree in physical education this past April. "I have always gone to conference meets when BYU was in the Mountain West Conference. I will be competing in one event and that will be the hammer throw."
