Even though there was a change in format there was no shortage of competitors at this year's 22nd annual Ramah Navajo Fair & Rodeo.

After being sanctioned in recent years with one of the local rodeo associations, the fair committee opted to go with an open show rodeo.

"We had a great turnout," said Bridget Thomas, one of the rodeo's coordinators. "And for a community like Pine Hill I think this is a lot of people."

Unlike the sanctioned rodeos, the open show rodeo on Saturday also featured events such as chute dogging and ribbon roping.
