Goldie Tom knows all things makeup, hair and fashion. Tom is a makeup artist and hairstylist whose work has seen the runways of New York Fashion Week and Miami Fashion Week.

But it doesn’t stop there – she’s also worked on numerous film and TV show sets. On other occasions her work graces the faces of little kids at birthday parties who just want their faces painted. It was one such event that sparked an idea.

“I went to this party and it was a princess party,” she said. “They were all dressed up like Disney princesses — like Jasmine, Cinderella, Snow White, Belle. Then I thought, Well, why isn’t anyone dressed up as Miss Navajo? She’s a queen.”

This is why Tom decided to create her first-ever traditional skirt-making workshop for young girls.
