The new Miss Central Navajo, Adrianna Brown, said she almost didn’t enter this year’s pageant.
“After completing my year as Miss Central Teen (2016-17), I thought I was done,” she said.
But the 19-year-old Diné College student decided to take one more stab at a crown, and was successful.
Among other things, it might have been her contemporary skill that stood out — having taken construction at Many Farms High, Brown explained the uses of various carpentry tools.
Her contemporary talent, reading a poem she wrote about her grandmother, also seemed to touch the judges, she said.
“My grandmother is the main reason I do this,” she said of competing in pageants.
“She refuses to speak to us in English, so we were forced to learn Navajo.”
