WINDOW ROCK

More then 1,300 calls were made to Navajo Nation Police asking for assistance during the 71st annual Navajo Nation Fair, according to a report titled “71st annual Navajo Nation Fair, NDLE Statistics – Calls for Service & Booking.”

Between Sept. 3 and Sept. 7, 440 people were charged with public intoxication and taken to the detention center.

Twelve people were arrested for driving under the influence, which includes one suspected drunk driver attempting to drive through the parade route before the start of the parade on Saturday morning. The driver was arrested without incident. No one was injured.

The statistic report also stated police responded to three “unattended death” calls, one attempted suicide call and five “shots fired” calls.

3 murders in 1 day

Navajo Nation Police, along with the FBI, are investigating three unrelated homicides – all occurring the Saturday of Labor Day weekend.

Crownpoint police responded to a drinking disturbance at 11 p.m. on Sept. 2, according to Navajo Nation Police Chief Phillip Francisco.

The disturbance led to a homicide involving a male victim. Francisco did not specify how the person was killed, but a suspect was apprehended.

The same afternoon, a female was fatally shot by a male suspect in Dennehotso, Arizona, said Francisco.

A .22 caliber gun allegedly was used in the homicide. A suspect is in custody.

Around 7:30 p.m., a male was allegedly murdered during a fight five miles east of the Teesto Chapter House. A suspect is in custody.

Woman runs over partner

A domestic disturbance led to the death of a male victim who was allegedly run over by his female partner last Friday, said Francisco.

The incident occurred near the intersection of New Mexico County Road 19 and Navajo Service Road 48, south of the Borrego Pass School in Borrego Pass, New Mexico.

The female killed the victim with a silver dodge truck, said Francisco. The suspect has not been apprehended.

Utah crash kills woman

A female passenger was killed in a one-vehicle accident last Wednesday afternoon in Aneth, Utah.

According to the chief, the driver was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

The driver was arrested and may be facing vehicular manslaughter charges, said Francisco.

Crownpoint store robbed

The Giant Store in Crownpoint was robbed at gunpoint Friday a little after 10 p.m.

According to the report, two men demanded money from the cash register. When the store clerk did not give them the money fast enough, police said, “the suspect with the gun” fired one shot into the ceiling.

The suspects then fled the store in a sedan that was parked on the street. As they fled, police said, two more shots were heard being fired.

During the investigation, police reviewed the store’s surveillance tape and identified Trevor Littleman, 25, of Crownpoint as being the shooter. The second suspect was not immediately identified.

The case has been referred to Crownpoint Criminal Investigations.
