WINDOW ROCK

Boudreaux Campbell was a perfect three-for-three on his bulls to claim the Window Rock Championship Bull Riding title before a near capacity crowd at Dean C. Jackson Memorial Arena this past Sunday night.

The event, which was the second stop of the CBR’s 2018 Road to Cheyenne tour, opened the 71st Annual Navajo Nation Fair.

“We had a great crowd tonight,” CBR ambassador Tuff Hedeman said. “The CBR is very honored to be here on the Navajo Nation in Window Rock.

“The bull riders did an outstanding job,” he said. “We had top-notch stock contractors bringing their top of the line bulls. It is a challenge to have a CBR event on a Sunday, but everything went smooth. We’re looking forward to returning here next year.”

After earning a berth in the four-man Shoot Out Round and falling short of winning the title last year, Campbell was destined to win this year’s crown.

“I made the four-man Shoot Out Round last year, but I didn’t do as well as I did this year,” the 19-year-old Campbell, of Crockett, Texas, said. “I was a rookie and I was nervous. I didn’t do as well as I wanted to. I have gained experience and stamina to finish the event three-for-three.”

For his outstanding performance Campbell was presented a $26,787.50 check.

With the championship in hand, Campbell has jumped to number one in the CBR world standings. He missed the CBR event in Huron, South Dakota, but surpassed other bull riders with his solid finish in Window Rock.

He currently leads the PRCA in the 2017 Rookie of the Year race.
