“A lot of hard work from each individual for the betterment of the team is a key to our success,” said Page head cross-country coach MacArthur Lane, who begins his sixth year as the Sand Devils’ skipper.

Page begins its quest for its fourth straight Division III State Championship on Aug. 29, when the Sand Devils compete in the Hopi Cross-Country Invitational.

“We always stress schoolwork for good grades,” Lane said. “We want to work hard at each practice. We also want to train smart to avoid injuries and illnesses. Our expectations are to improve each week and represent our school and families as best as we can both in practice and competition.”

Lane said after garnering three straight state championships, there is no pressure to win a fourth consecutive title.

“We have been very fortunate to come out on top the past three years,” Lane said. “I also believe that through our effort, desire, dedication and belief in what we want to achieve, (that) sets a high standard that we hold each other accountable to. In a sense, the pressure is on our competitors to match or exceed what we are doing if they want to overtake us and win a state championship.”
