CEO/Publisher
FULL TIME, PERMANENT POSITION
The Navajo Times Publishing Company, Inc. (“NTPC, Inc.”) is currently accepting applications for the CEO/Publisher position to lead its successful Navajo owned and operated company and award-winning weekly newspaper.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Plans, directs, and organizes the administration, operation, programs, and services of NTPC, Inc. and the publication of the Navajo Times newspaper. Ensures journalistic excellence and integrity, represents the organization, and drives the long-term growth and success of NTPC, Inc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Journalism, Communication, English, or a closely related field, plus six years of publishing experience with two years of managerial experience in a newspaper or within a print publication setting; or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
• Must possess proven leadership abilities and financial management abilities.
• Must possess a current valid driver’s license and be able to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.
• Applicant must provide written letters of recommendations from his/her past two supervisors, who are willing to confirm their recommendations and attest to applicant’s qualifications.
• If Applicant is a past or current employee or contractor, his/her personnel file and evaluations will be considered. Employees with poor performance records, verbal warnings, and disciplinary actions that were not satisfactorily resolved or whose file demonstrates a failure to meet qualifications will not be considered.
• Failure to provide accurate or all required information by the deadline below and meet the necessary qualifications results in automatic denial of the application
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, SKILLS & CERTIFICATIONS:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources for newspaper management.
• Knowledge of basic principles of journalism and ethics of the publishing industry.
• Knowledge of financial management and financial reporting.
• Knowledge of organization structure and operating procedures of a newspaper publishing company.
• Skill in examining and reengineering operations, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
• Skill in developing and implementing comprehensive marketing and advertising goals, objectives, and plans.
• Skills to lead, motivate, coach and to inspire all staff to perform at the highest levels.
• Skill in using independent judgement and in the consideration of implications and consequences in making decisions on behalf of NTPC, Inc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Meet and communicate with the Board of Directors, Management staff, and employees on a regular and consistent basis.
• Represent the NTPC, Inc. staff to the Board of Directors and Shareholder Representatives, functioning as an effective liaison between the Board of Directors, Shareholder Representatives, and the staff of NTPC, Inc.
• Provide leadership and supervision in planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementing the daily tasks and activities of the departments of NTPC, Inc., utilizing subordinate and administrative personnel.
• Regularly and consistently review financial activity and financial statements to determine progress and status in attaining corporate goals and objectives, considering conditions and making adjustments as necessary.
• Maintain confidentiality of all privileged information.
• Assure that NPTC, Inc. and its mission, production, and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive light to relevant stakeholders and to the public and that NTPC, Inc. maintains the highest level of journalistic integrity, setting and enforcing publication standards for performance.
• Under the supervision of the Board of Directors, provide NTPC, Inc. with the vision and leadership to carry out its mission.
• Under the supervision of the Board of Directors, oversee, implement, and develop long-range goals for the Navajo Times to ensure the growth of NTPC, Inc. and its expansion of services and benefits to its customers and community.

Board of Directors Member
The Navajo Times Publishing Company, Inc. (“NTPC, Inc.”) is currently accepting resumes for one position on its five-member Board of Directors. NTPC, Inc. is an award-winning weekly newspaper and is a Navajo owned for-profit corporation.
NPTC, Inc. is looking for a person with a professional background in the newspaper publishing industry, and/or with substantial education and experience in media, communications, business, or related academia. Specific examples include expertise and knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
• Direct experience with newspaper or print publications
• Experience with local, regional, state or national media
• Connections and awareness of local or tribal business community
• Marketing and advertising
• Executive management
• Law – media, intellectual property, tribal and state law
• Finance and accounting
Members of the Board of Directors are expected to attend quarterly board meetings and specially called meetings and to serve on a board sub-committee. The expected time commitment is at least 10 hours per quarter. Previous board experience is helpful but not necessary.
Reporter – Full time, permanent position
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication, English, or a related field. Plus, three years of progressive work experience in reporting for a news or magazine publication or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a current valid state driver’s license. Must have good communication skills and be able to travel and work flexible hours. Experience in covering hard news, hyperlocal news, sports, features, and taking photographs is preferred. Speaking and writing Diné Bizaad are a plus. Salary: Negotiable.

Freelance positions – Editorial
The Navajo Times seeks experienced freelance news and sports reporters and photographers to join its team. Successful candidates will be responsible for delivering prompt news coverage while producing comprehensive and engaging articles that impact the Diné readership.
Freelancers can help with publication by contributing stories and photos, such as breaking news, covering community events, writing in-depth pieces, profiling personalities, and producing cover stories.
A solid commitment to journalistic ethics – accuracy and impartiality – is highly valued in the ideal candidate. The ideal candidate should have exceptional writing, reporting, and photography skills. Candidates should understand Diné government, culture, and traditions well. Speaking and writing Diné Bizaad are a plus.
