Hello everyone! My name is Tanya Lister. I am the newly crowned Miss Northern Navajo 2009-10.

I am of the Mexican People Clan, born for the Towering House Clan. My maternal grandfather's clan is the Red House Clan. My paternal grandfather's clan is Under His Cover Clan.

My parents are Marietta and Leonard Lister. My maternal grandmother was the late Sarah Slowman of Sanostee, N.M. My maternal grandfather is Elwood Slowman of Teec Nos Pos, Ariz. My paternal grandparents are Sadie and Samuel Lister, both of Indian Wells, Ariz.

I am 18 years old and I attend school in Alamosa, Colo., at Adams State College with a major in pre-nursing.

Becoming Miss Northern Navajo has been a lifelong dream. As Miss Northern Navajo, I will strive to represent the northern part of the Navajo Nation to the best of my ability.

I feel obligated to present myself as a legitimate role model for the younger generation. I promise to respectably teach my Diné people every bit of knowledge as did previous princesses did for me.

Not only will I wear the crown and my traditional outfit with pride, but I will teach the youth of our sovereign nation. Education is the key to ensuring that our people will live on. I strongly believe and live in this way.

My platform as Miss Northern Navajo is to stress the importance of education, especially to the younger generation.
