"Illegal" is what Council Delegate Danny Simpson dubbed a meeting between members of a Navajo Nation Council subcommittee dealing with possible uranium development and officials from Uranium Resources, Inc.

At a subcommittee meeting of the Resources and Development Committee on Monday, Simpson (Becenti/Crownpoint/Huerfano/Lake Valley/Nageezi/Nahodishgish/Tse'ii'ahi/ Whiterock) told Leonard Tsosie and Leonard Pete that the meeting they're leading is illegal. Tsosie (Baca-Prewitt/Casamero Lake/Counselor/Littlewater/Ojo Encino/Pueblo Pintado/Torreon/Whitehorse Lake) is the chair of the subcommittee, while Pete (Chinle) is the vice-chair.

The subcommittee, created via an RDC resolution in December, is tasked with carrying out dialogue with URI on its proposed uranium operations in Church Rock, N.M., including an in situ uranium demonstration project.
