A year ago, the Tuba City boys cross-country team left the Arizona state meet disappointed after finishing second to Rio Rico.

Entering the final race last season, the Warriors had a banner year, winning most of the meets they entered. But at the state meet, the Rio Rico team surprised the Warriors by placing five runners  in the top 10.

On Saturday, the Warriors returned the favor as they placed all of its scoring members in the top 18 and won the Division III title with 48 points. Rio Rico finished a distant second with 71 points while Page copped third place honors  with 118.

“This is the epiphany of teamwork,” Tuba City coach Arvis Myron said afterward. “I told the boys that it was going to take all seven runners to win this race.”

In the Division III girls, Ganado finished fourth overall with 150 points behind the 2-3 finish from sophomores Daaniigoonii Haven and Nikesha Eagleman.

In the Division IV, the Hopi Bruins swept the team titles with the boys winning its 24th crown with 69 points and beat second place finisher Pinon by 55 points.

The girls, meanwhile, withstood a strong showing from Tucson Pusch Ridge and won by a 38 to 56 margin.
