Navajo Nation election officials are looking at the possibility of postponing this year’s presidential and Council elections because of the challenge filed against one of the presidential candidates.

Edison Wauneka, head of the Navajo Election Administration, said his office is facing tight restraints in getting the ballots printed for absentee ballots, which have to go out 30 days before the Nov. 3 general election.

The company printing the ballots has set a deadline of today, Sept. 25, for the election office to turn in the names of those running for the various positions.

The problem, said Wauneka, is that the Navajo Nation Supreme Court won’t have a decision to the challenge filed against presidential candidate Chris Deschene until at least Friday.
