If the Navajo Pine Warriors are to be true contenders for a district title, they will certainly need to shore up a few things.

"We want to be in the hunt," Navajo Pine coach Lowell Russell said. "We want to be in the big dance but we need to get a lot better because we are doing a lot of shuffling."

After losing the season opener on Nov. 30, Russell was looking at numbers on Tuesday night as the Warriors even its record to 1-1 with a 61-43 win over Tse' Yi' Gai.

In particular, the first-year coach was hoping to see more production on the offensive end with high percentage shots. He also paid close attention to the number of rebounds as well as the turnover ratios.

"We really don't have any distinct advantages so we need to do the little things," he said. "We're a work in progress and … the thing I am trying to teach these guys is confidence."
