With the help of at least six Native basketball players, the Tularosa Lady Wildcats became the 2014 Class 2A state champs.

For the first time in school history, the No. 2 Lady Wildcats earned a blue trophy after defeating No. 1 Texico, 49-46, in the title game last week during the New Mexico Activities Association state basketball tournament held March 11-15.

It was a game Texico was favored to win, but with the help of Native players from Mescalero Apache and the Navajo Nation the Wildcats finished on top.
