Navajo contestants held their own at the 28th annual Navajo Nation PRCA ProRodeo at Dean C. Jackson Memorial Arena.

The three performances and one slack rodeo featured 367 contestants. Among the participants were PRCA reigning and former world champions and top 15 contestants. The rodeo was one of more than 30 rodeos held during the Fourth of July holiday.

Contestants from throughout the U.S. competed for a $128,623 total purse. Contestants are vying for the top 15 world standings, which will earn a berth in this year's Wrangler's National Finals Rodeo at the Thomas & Mack Center in December.

Local PRCA ProRodeo coordinator John Boyd Jr. said the field of contestants was impressive.

"The contestants have a busy schedule during the Fourth of July holiday," Boyd said. "The contestants make a stop in Window Rock to compete and off they go. They compete in as many as two rodeos in one day."
