Rolonda Jumbo, a senior at Chinle High, is the Navajo Times Female Runner of the Year.
Jumbo won her sixth consecutive state title at the Arizona Division III cross country meet in November. Jumbo improved her time from last year by nearly five seconds and dominated the 3.1-mile race. She finished with a time of 18:27 and was nearly 200 yards in front of the eventual second-place finisher from Tempe High.
Herbert Beyale III, a senior at Shiprock High, is Navajo Times Male Runner of the Year.
Beyale set a course record at the district meet in Crownpoint with a time of 16:59 before capturing the Class 3A New Mexico state cross-country title in Rio Rancho in November with a time of 16:30. He later competed in the Nike cross country national race and placed 54th and set a personal record of 16:12.
Chinle High's Shaun Martin is the Navajo Times Cross-Country Coach of the Year.
Martin, a former Wings of America program director, coached the boys' and girls' teams to state championships at the Arizona Division III state meet. He was also on the cover of a national running magazine and was the first Diné to claim the title "Arizona Rural Schoolteacher of the Year."
Jaime Roe, a senior at Tuba City High, is the Navajo Times Volleyball Player of the Year.
Roe was named to the Arizona Republic Division III first team and was nominated as player of the year. She also helped her team to three first-place tournament wins, a final four appearance at the state tournament last year, three total final four appearances, and a state-runner-up finish.
Tuba City High's Harland Barlow is the Navajo Times Volleyball Coach of the Year. Barlow has had winning records since he started coaching two years ago and his teams made it to the state playoffs both years.
Aztec's Adam Lucero, a junior quarterback, is the Navajo Times Football Player of the Year.
Lucero led the Tigers to the Class 4A state championship over Goddard. Lucero was named to the New Mexico High School Coaches Association Class 4A All-State football first team and the second team on defense.
Chinle High's Tim Su'e Su'e Liufau is the Navajo Times Football Coach of the Year.
In his first year, Su'e Su'e had a winning record of 6-4. That was the first time in 20 years that Chinle not only had a winning record but qualified for the 3A state football playoffs. This past season, the team finished with a 6-5 record and was ranked 11th in Division IV.
