Two and a half hours before the polls closed, Deswood Tome, campaign manager for the Ben Shelly-Rex Lee Jim campaign was expressing a lot of confidence in his candidate’s ability to come in first in today’s primary.

“I feel great (about Shelly’s chances),” he said, saying today is the culmination of three and a half years of efforts by Shelly to improve conditions on the Navajo Reservation.

Shelly and Jim have been going around to the chapters today, talking to voters while the campaign’s volunteers have been going out into the chapters and picking up elderly voters to bring them to the polls.

The campaign has set up its headquarters just north of Bashas’ in Window Rock and Tome said he is urging all of Shelly’s supporters to go there and listen to the results Tuesday night.

The campaign will be providing Navajo tacos at the site.
