NMAA unveils new classification and district alignment
FRUITLAND, N.M.
For the upcoming 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons, some area teams will face some new competition.
The New Mexico Activities Association released a new classification and district realignment for the next two-year block.
While many of the local competition remains the same, some drastic changes will be made.
The NMAA Board of Directors approved the new classification and alignment last week.
According to NMAA bylaws, Section IV Classification and Alignment, Section 4.1.2 states that “a comprehensive review of member school enrollment numbers is undertaken to determine classification and alignment for all sports.”
According to the section, for three years before the new alignment and classification block is implemented, a 40-day enrollment count is conducted used to determine the number enrolled in each school.
