The showmanship featured siblings Kellen Stanley, Tyann Layton and Penelope Begay as the trio qualified their respective large animals.

Stanley qualified his steer, Golden Hawks, in the beef division, while Layton made the finale with her swine, Leroy, and Begay earned her spot with her goat, Megan.
In the lamb category, 13-year-old Kassidy Garcia also made the cut with her prized lamb, Fridge.

The four finalists brought their animals to the center of the Larry Lantana 4-H Pavilion, demonstrating their showmanship skills on each animal for ENF 4-H judge Matt Denetclaw.

Judge praises depth of skill

“We had a real high-quality set of showmen, and what a great way to close out the livestock show with the round robin showmanship,” Denetclaw said. “These individuals not only displayed their own animals to the best of their ability, but the livestock belonging to others, and each exhibitors did an excellent job of getting things presented.”

Of the four, Denetclaw liked what he saw in the showman skills of Layton and Garcia.

“These two individuals simply took the cake for me, in terms of how they were able observe what other exhibitors were doing throughout the show,” he said. “They applied those same principles to the livestock they were showing today.”

Of the two young women, Denetclaw chose Garcia as the winner of the round robin showmanship award.
