There are plenty of ways to honor a military veteran this Veterans Day here in the Navajo Nation. Below are a few events happening across the area this year.
Casamero Lake Chapter – 29th Annual Veterans Day Celebration
On Nov. 11, the Casamero Lake Chapter will host its 29th Annual Veterans Day Celebration under the theme, “We Honor Your Loyalty and Service.” Organized by the Casamero Lake Veterans Organization, the event aims to show appreciation to the community’s veterans. The celebration begins with a parade at 9 a.m., including a “best float competition” with awards for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places. Following the parade, a program will recognize and honor the service of local veterans.
City of Page Veterans Day Parade
The annual Veterans Day Parade by the City of Page will be held on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. on Lake Powell Boulevard. Participants are encouraged to join in honoring veterans, with prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-place floats. Additionally, there will be a free breakfast for veterans at the Elks Lodge from 8 to 10 a.m. Non-veterans can attend the breakfast for $8.
Oak/Pine Springs Veterans Day Breakfast
The Oak/Pine Springs Veterans Organization invites community members to its annual Veterans Day Breakfast on Nov. 11 from 7-11 a.m. at the Oak Springs Administration. This event offers an opportunity to explore the nation’s military history while honoring veterans and their service. Community members are encouraged to join veterans and their families for breakfast and fellowship.
Gallup Cultural Center Veterans Appreciation Luncheon
The Gallup Cultural Center will host a Veterans Appreciation Luncheon on Nov. 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., honoring all who have served. Guests will include Zonnie Gorman, flutist Fernando Cellicion, and the Hozho Academy Singers, with catering provided by Sweet Revenge. The luncheon will be available while supplies last, offering a chance for the community to come together in appreciation of veterans.
Sheep Springs Veterans Day Parade
Sheep Springs will host a Veterans Day Parade on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. on the frontage road near the Sheep Springs Trading Post. After the parade, community members are invited to a catered meal at the Sheep Springs Chapter, providing an opportunity for fellowship and appreciation for the community’s veterans.
Gallup Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony
The City of Gallup is hosting a Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony on Nov. 11. There will be a laying of wreaths at the Hillcrest Veterans Cemetery at 10 a.m. at 390 11th St.; a parade on Aztec Avenue and 8th St. to Second Street at 11 a.m.; and a ceremony at the Gallup Downtown Courthouse Square at 11:30 a.m.
Youth and Veterans Day Event – Special Thank-you Navajo Taco Plate
The Diné Youth – Fort Defiance Agency presents a “Youth and Veterans Day Event” on Friday, Nov. 15, starting at 3 p.m. Requirement for the Navajo Taco Plate (while supplies last): one youth between the ages of 5-17 and their one special military veteran or active military loved one (must show proof with their military ID) to receive a free Navajo Taco Plate and beverage. Navajo Code Talkers Poster Art Session
This special Veterans Day event will take place at Connect Space in Historic Downtown Farmington from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event will showcase the artwork of Elwyn Begay. Framed posters of her artwork will be on display in the gallery. Trading cards featuring these posters of the Navajo Code Talkers will be available.
