It took about ten minutes for Valley Lutheran harrier Benjamin Benally to gain the separation he needed to win his second consecutive Arizona Interscholastic Association Division IV state boys crown.

It’s an ambitious task, but the Page boys cross country team knows they have a legitimate shot at it. The Sand Devils are entering the Arizona Interscholastic Association Division III boys state meet as the favorites and they are looking to get all seven members in the top 21 in Saturday’s race at Cave Creek Golf Course in north Phoenix.

The Arizona Interscholastic Association state meet is on Saturday and the Chinle Lady Wildcats enter the final meet of the season as one of the four sectional champions.

With a split time of 1:30 between its first and fifth runner, the Miyamura Lady Patriots earned the third-place trophy at the New Mexico Class 4A state meet on Saturday.

The frontrunners in the Class 5A boys state meet race has engaged themselves in a friendly rivalry this year. Throughout this season, Cleveland’s Lucas Espinosa, Volcano Vista’s Talen Riley, and La Cueva’s Nikko Mihan have beaten each other.
