
PETRIFIED FOREST, Ariz. – Celebrate Arizona Archeology Month with the following guided backcountry hikes at Petrified Forest National Park.
• March 14: Martha’s Butte and Beyond, five miles in rugged desert terrain to an ancient rock art site.
• March 21: Starving Man, six miles to boulders covered in petroglyphs and continue to badlands with ascending high ridge panoramic views.
• March 28: Petroglyph Mesa, 7.5. miles to a major rock art site in the park’s northern wilderness.
• March 29: Bark Ranger Walkabout, 3 miles through the badlands with panoramic views and geological features.
• April 4: Petroglyph Canyon, 3.5 miles to an old foot trail constructed in the 1930s.
