Newcomb man facing federal charges

A Newcomb, New Mexico, man who had been wanted for assaulting a federal officer on the Navajo Reservation was arrested in Gallup Wednesday.

Larry Emerson Jr., 36, was arrested by FBI agents in Gallup with the assistance of the McKinley County Sheriff’s Office and the Gallup Police Department.

According to FBI officials, Emerson allegedly assaulted a Navajo Police officer in Shiprock on July 6. Because Navajo police officers are also commissioned as officers for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, this makes the crime a federal offense.
